Adjust your plan¶
Update your budget when priorities, prices, or dates change. A useful plan should follow your circumstances, and small adjustments are part of keeping it current.
Move Funds¶
Use Move Funds to change the purpose of money already in the budget.
- On the budget screen, select Move Funds beneath the envelope rows.
- Choose From: an envelope or Available funds.
- Choose a different To destination.
- Enter a positive Amount with up to two decimal places.
- Select Move.
For example, moving $25 from Entertainment to Groceries reduces Entertainment by $25 and adds funding to Groceries. If Groceries has outstanding card debt, new funding can first back that debt; review the card payment breakdown as well.
You can move money back to Available funds by choosing it as the destination. The source must have enough funds for the amount entered.
A move does not change any bank-account balance, bill amount, or target. Review the projection afterward: taking money from an envelope may leave its existing plans needing more funding.
Change or remove an expense¶
- Open the envelope.
- Under Planned expenses, select the expense's text or amount.
- Update Amount, Due day, Expected payee, or Note.
- Select Save changes.
Use Delete in that editor if the expense is no longer expected. Deleting a plan removes the expectation; it does not record a payment or reverse spending already entered. If the payment happened, use Reconcile expense.
Change or remove a target¶
Open the envelope and select the target under Targets. Update its Amount, Target date, or Note, then select Save changes. Use Remove if the remaining allowance is no longer needed. This removes the target immediately; it does not change recorded spending or release money already assigned to the envelope.
Enter the amount still expected to be spent, not the original allowance before purchases. If you corrected a transaction that previously reduced a target, adjust the target manually to match your current plan.
Pause or resume funding¶
Use the funding control beside the envelope name on the budget screen, or the Funding nightly switch on its details page.
Pausing keeps existing balances, targets, and expenses but stops new automatic funding and removes that envelope's funding needs from the projection. Left to plan may rise as a result. This means the needs were excluded from funding, not that they were paid.
Resume funding when you want the envelope to receive allocations again. To release its existing cash, use Move Funds separately.
Plan the next period¶
On Envelope Details, select Add under Planned expenses or Targets. If that section already has a dated plan, Add opens Plan next using the latest date for that kind of plan, even if it is not fully funded. If no dated plan exists, it opens the ordinary new-plan form.
When an envelope's final planned date is covered by current or projected funding, the timeline can show a Plan next expense or Plan next target arrow as another way into this workflow.
- Select the relevant Add button on the details page or Plan next arrow.
- Choose the source plan if the dialog offers more than one.
- Check Amount.
- Set Offset to Days later or Months later, then enter a positive whole-number Interval.
- Review the displayed new due date or target date.
- Select Plan next.
For a monthly bill, choose Months later with an interval of 1. A source
date at month-end stays at the end of the destination month. Always check the
date shown before saving.
This creates one additional plan. It does not set up an indefinite recurring schedule or replace the original plan. If the arrow is absent, you can still open the same workflow using Add on the envelope details page.
The app prevents a second target on the same date and asks you to explicitly choose an identical expense duplicate before creating one. Check whether the next period is already planned first.
To enter a specific date rather than an offset, select Choose a date instead. Review the copied amount, payee, and note, set the date, and save with Plan expense or Add target. This creates a separate plan. You can also use Plan expense or Add Target in the envelope's timeline menu.
Rename, group, or hide an envelope¶
Select the envelope name on the timeline and choose Edit Name, or select
the pencil button labeled Edit name beside its heading on Envelope Details.
Edit Envelope name and select Save.
Names such as Home - Rent or Home: Rent group under Home when
Alphabetical sorting is enabled. Changing the name leaves its money and
plans in place.
To move an envelope out of the main list, select Hide envelope in that
editor. It saves the name with a Hidden - prefix and puts the envelope in
the Hidden group at the bottom, in every sort order. Collapse that group
to tuck away its rows; expand it to inspect them again.
Hiding does not pause funding, cancel plans, delete history, or release cash. If the envelope should stop requesting funding, pause it separately.
To restore it, expand Hidden, open Edit Name, and select Unhide envelope.
This removes the Hidden category prefix. If the original name included a
category, such as Home - Rent, that category becomes visible again.
