Your regular review¶
A short review keeps your budget connected to what actually happened. Return after new account activity and give the next few weeks a more thorough look regularly. Choose a rhythm you can keep.
1. Bring account activity up to date¶
Open each account from the Accounts pane. Compare recent entries with your bank, card records, and cash spending.
Record missing purchases and income. If a purchase belongs to a planned expense, reconcile that expense instead of recording it separately. Look for duplicates before adding anything.
Use Record spending and income for ordinary entries and Reconcile a planned expense for expected payments.
2. Check account balances¶
Compare like with like: use the same cutoff and the same treatment of pending activity. Refresh reloads entries saved in the app; it is not a request to import transactions from your bank.
If balances differ, review the starting point, missing activity, duplicate entries, and amount signs. Use Load older entries when you need to look further back. Follow When numbers look wrong before adding a correction just to make the total match.
3. Resolve due expenses¶
Review expenses marked Needs reconciliation:
- If paid and not yet recorded, reconcile with the actual account, date, and amount.
- If already recorded, check the entry and remove the obsolete plan without posting the payment again.
- If still expected, update the due date when you know the new timing.
- If cancelled, delete the plan.
- If you cannot yet confirm what happened, leave it unresolved for follow-up.
4. Review allowances and card reserves¶
Check whether target amounts still describe spending that remains. A target reduced when a transaction was created will not automatically change again if you later edit or delete that transaction.
For credit cards, compare Ready to pay, Owed, and Still to cover. Review opening debt, recent purchases, and recorded payments separately from ordinary envelope funding.
5. Look ahead¶
Return to the budget timeline and check your next bills and target dates. Review Left to plan and any Available funds run out here flag. Consider plans further to the right as well as the dates currently visible.
Use the chart icon beside Move Funds to explore the funding forecast. Daily funding pressure can help identify which envelopes drive demand after the current cash runs short. Expand Hidden and any collapsed categories if a plan is missing from view; enabled funding still counts in those rows.
Add missing needs and the next period's plans. Adjust flexible amounts or move funds where appropriate, then check whether those changes leave another need short. See Adjust your plan.
Finish with a clear next step¶
You are current through this review when account activity is checked, remaining plans reflect what you expect, and any unresolved difference or shortfall has a next action. A review can be useful without ending in a perfectly tidy screen.
